Brad Pitt is set to reprise his role as Cliff Booth, the enigmatic Hollywood stuntman from Quentin Tarantino’s 2019 hit film, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. This time, however, the character will be at the center of a new spin-off film directed by David Fincher. The project, officially named The Further Mis-Adventures of Cliff Booth by Netflix, continues Booth’s story as he maneuvers through a transforming film industry, revealing more about his hidden past.
Scheduled for a brief global IMAX release starting November 25, the film will later be available to stream on Netflix beginning December 23. Although Quentin Tarantino penned the screenplay, he opted not to direct this installment, stating previously that he wanted his directorial finale to be an original story rather than a sequel. The narrative unfolds in 1977, eight years after the original film’s setting, and will delve into how Booth copes with a Hollywood landscape that has dramatically evolved.
The cast for this new venture is impressive, featuring Elizabeth Debicki, Scott Caan, Carla Gugino, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Peter Weller, Matt Groove, JB Tadena, Corey Fogelmanis, and Karren Karagulian alongside Pitt. Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, the film that introduced Booth, starred Pitt with Leonardo DiCaprio and Margot Robbie and was set against the backdrop of the late 1960s Los Angeles.
Taking the helm for this spin-off is David Fincher, a director renowned for his work on films such as Fight Club, Zodiac, The Social Network, and Gone Girl. Fincher also has a history with Netflix, having directed episodes of popular series including House of Cards and Mindhunter. His involvement is expected to bring a fresh creative perspective to the story.
The reunion of Brad Pitt with his memorable character, under the direction of Fincher, promises to deliver a unique cinematic experience. While Tarantino remains a pivotal creative force behind the screenplay, known for his acclaimed films like Pulp Fiction, Reservoir Dogs, and Django Unchained, Fincher’s distinct style is anticipated to offer a different narrative flavor, making this project a notable extension of the original cinematic universe.
