Cinema history has a new landmark: the trailer for Spider-Man: Brand New Day became the first ever to surpass one billion views, reaching the milestone within just four days of its March 17 release. Tom Holland’s latest chapter as Peter Parker has triggered an unprecedented level of global excitement, and that was before anyone even saw the film. Sony’s marketing campaign has set a bar that may never be matched.

Previous records gave little indication of what was coming. Deadpool & Wolverine had thrilled the industry with 365 million 24-hour views in early 2024. No Way Home had done 355.5 million. Grand Theft Auto VI had crossed entertainment lines to register 475 million first-day views. Brand New Day outpaced them all, landing 718.6 million views on day one.

WaveMetrix tracking put the cumulative total at 1.1 billion by Tuesday, and the number continues to rise. The firm called it the first trailer in history to cross the billion-view mark. Box office forecasters are already revising their projections for what will almost certainly be one of the year’s biggest cinematic events.

The trailer resonated because it was more than a highlight reel — it was a genuinely emotional narrative piece. Peter Parker, forgotten and alone following No Way Home, keeps fighting for a city that doesn’t know his name. He seeks Bruce Banner/Hulk’s guidance as he battles a new enemy, transforming in ways the audience cannot yet fully anticipate.

Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, Brand New Day is the fourth MCU Spider-Man entry and part of Phase Six. It opens July 31 with Tom Holland, Zendaya, Sadie Sink, Jacob Batalon, Jon Bernthal, Tramell Tillman, Michael Mando, and Mark Ruffalo. Indian fans will see it in English, Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, and Malayalam.
