A homemade blackberry and bay crostata makes a wonderful and thoughtful gift for a friend, a new neighbor, or as a contribution to a potluck. With a little care in packaging, you can ensure your beautiful creation travels well and looks just as stunning upon arrival.

The best way to transport the crostata is in the tin it was baked in. If you have a tart tin with a removable base, simply leave the tart on the flat metal base for support. Place the whole thing inside a bakery box or a sturdy cardboard box that is slightly larger than the tart. You can find these at most craft or kitchen supply stores.

To prevent the tart from sliding around inside the box, you can place a piece of non-slip shelf liner on the bottom of the box before putting the tart inside. Alternatively, you can crumple up some parchment paper or tissue paper to tuck around the base of the tart to hold it securely in place.

If you are gifting individual slices, a small cardboard pastry box or a sturdy paper plate covered tightly with plastic wrap works well. For a prettier presentation, you can find triangular slice boxes online that are perfect for single servings of tarts and pies.

Don’t forget the finishing touches. Tie the box with a beautiful ribbon or some rustic baker’s twine. A handwritten tag with the name of the tart (“Homemade Blackberry & Bay Crostata”) and perhaps a list of the main ingredients is a lovely personal touch. A beautifully and securely packaged crostata shows an extra level of care that makes the gift even more special.
