The Swiss women’s national football team has made history by advancing to the quarterfinals of the UEFA Women’s European Championship for the first time. Their dramatic stoppage-time equalizer against Finland sparked wild celebrations among the 2,000 fans gathered at Zurich’s main railway station for a public viewing.

The atmosphere was electric throughout the evening, especially after Switzerland fell behind to a late Finnish penalty in the 79th minute. While Finnish fans briefly celebrated, Swiss supporters were soon sent into a frenzy when the equalizing goal hit the net in added time — drinks flew through the air as cheers erupted across the crowd.

This marks Switzerland’s best performance in the Women’s Euro since their debut appearance in 2017, where they failed to progress beyond the group stage. The Zurich Fan Mile was packed well before kick-off, reaching maximum capacity, with more fans crowding outside barriers or seeking alternative public viewings around the city.

Despite the excitement, fans were slightly disappointed to learn that the quarterfinal will be held in Bern rather than Zurich. Nevertheless, with Switzerland set to face likely opponents and world champions Spain, the “ZüriFanzone” is expected to draw large crowds once again.
