Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has extended his congratulations to Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni as her government achieved a historic milestone, becoming the longest continuously serving administration in the Italian Republic’s history. Erdoğan commended Meloni on this achievement and expressed optimism about the continued strengthening of ties between Türkiye and Italy.
The milestone marks Meloni’s government completing 1,413 consecutive days in office, surpassing the previous record of 1,412 days set by former Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi’s second government, which spanned from 2001 to 2005. Meloni, who assumed office in October 2022 as Italy’s first female prime minister, has since fostered a strong working relationship with Erdoğan, engaging in regular dialogues on various bilateral and regional issues.
The partnership between Türkiye and Italy has flourished under their leadership, with both countries making strides in expanding cooperation across key sectors such as trade, investment, defense, energy, and migration. Additionally, they have coordinated efforts on significant regional issues, including the situations in Libya and Ukraine.
In April 2025, the two leaders co-chaired the fourth Türkiye-Italy Intergovernmental Summit in Rome. This summit was a significant step in solidifying their strategic and economic partnership, resulting in the signing of several agreements aimed at enhancing collaboration. Their most recent meeting took place on the sidelines of the NATO summit held in Ankara in July, where they reaffirmed their commitment to boosting trade, mutual investment, and defense cooperation between their nations.
